What Independent Means
I’m standing for Macedon as an independent. That means I’m not a candidate for a political party, and if elected, I won’t be bound to vote along party lines.
What that means for Macedon
Local priorities come first - My job would be to listen to people across the electorate, raise their concerns in Parliament and judge proposals by how they affect our community.
What happens in Parliament
I can work across party lines - If a proposal with merit is presented, regardless of who puts it forward, I can support it. If a proposal falls short, I can question it and push for changes.
Independent MPs debate legislation, vote on bills and speak up for the people they represent, whether or not they hold the balance of power.
If no party wins a majority in the Legislative Assembly, independents may be asked to negotiate support for a government. They may also have more influence over whether particular laws pass. That influence depends on the election result; it is never guaranteed.
